Help your pet get home
A gate left open, a slipped lead or an unexpected fright can be all it takes for a pet to go missing. For their family, the worry starts immediately. For the person who finds them, the challenge is knowing who they belong to and how to reach their owner.
Without a way to make contact, helping a lost pet can mean taking them to a local vet or pound for identification. That can add travel, waiting and an unfamiliar environment to an already stressful experience.
WagTag gives everyday community members a simple way to help reunite lost pets with their families, while keeping the owner’s phone number off the tag.
Your phone number should not be on public display
A traditional pet tag may display your phone number wherever your pet goes. Someone doesn’t need to find your pet lost to see it. At the park, outside a café or during a walk, that number may be visible to anyone nearby.
With the zoom capabilities of modern smartphone cameras, a clearly visible number may even be captured in a photo from a distance, without you realising.
Your phone number is never printed on a WagTag. Scanning the QR code does not reveal it either. The person who finds your pet provides their own phone number so you can contact them.
How WagTag helps bring pets home
Once your WagTag is linked to your pet’s profile in the WagTag app, attach it to their collar. If your pet goes missing, the person who finds them can:
-
Scan the QR code using their phone’s camera.
-
View your pet’s profile and follow the prompts to report them as found.
-
Enter their own phone number so you can get in touch.
When they submit the report, you receive an alert in the WagTag app with their contact details. You can then contact them and arrange to bring your pet home.
The person who found your pet does not need to install the WagTag app or create an account. That makes it easy for a neighbour, another pet owner or a passer-by to help.
By connecting you with the person who has found your pet, WagTag can help avoid a trip to the vet or pound solely for identification. Your community can play a direct part in getting your pet home sooner, with less stress for everyone involved.
