WagTag Public Pet Profile

The information that helps your pet get home
When someone finds an lost pet, they need a way to identify them and contact their owner. A clear photo, a name and a few useful details can help that person understand who they’ve found and take the next step towards getting them home.
Your pet’s Public Pet Profile makes this information available when someone scans their WagTag Pet ID Tag. It helps community members and pet shelters connect with you while giving you control over any additional information you choose to share.
Created when you add your pet
When you add a pet in the WagTag app, you’re also creating their Public Pet Profile.
The profile shares your pet’s:
-
Photo
-
Name
-
Size
-
Sex
-
Personality
-
Breed information
Choose a clear, recent photo and check that these details are correct. Keeping the profile up to date helps someone recognise your pet if they’re ever found away from home.
Add helpful information in the description
On the last screen of the pet profile setup, you’ll find a description field. Use this to add information you would like someone who finds your pet to know.
For example, you could explain that your dog is nervous around strangers, that your cat responds to a particular nickname, the contact details of your vet, or that your pet needs a gentle approach. A short, practical description can help someone care for your pet while they arrange to contact you.
Remember that this description is part of your pet’s public profile. Only include information you’re comfortable sharing with someone who scans the tag.
Keep your phone number private, or choose to share it
You don’t need to put your phone number in the description for WagTag to work.
When someone reports your pet as found, they provide their phone number, allowing you to call them and arrange your pet’s return. Your phone number isn’t printed on the WagTag Pet ID Tag.
Some owners choose to add their phone number to the description when their pet is lost. If you’re comfortable doing this, it gives someone viewing the public profile another way to contact you. It’s entirely optional, and you can remove the number from the description whenever you choose.
What someone sees when they scan the tag
When a community member or pet shelter scans the QR code on the reverse of your pet’s WagTag Pet ID Tag, they’re shown your pet’s Public Pet Profile.
They can view your pet’s photo and details, read the description, and follow the prompts to report that they’ve found your pet. They enter their phone number as part of that report so you can contact them.
This gives the person helping your pet a straightforward way to reach you and help get them home.
